Written by John Whiting and directed by Phillip Mann, 'The Devils' is a well known drama that combines political commentary with powerful scenes of mass hysteria and denunciation.

Urbain Grandier, a handsome, charismatic and worldly priest is asked to become the spiritual adviser to a local convent. However when he refuses the offer, Sister Jeanne - the Mother Superior- accuses him of not only being in league with the devil, but of seducing the entire convent. Grandier then finds himself on trial for more than just his life . . .

While the play is strong fare, Stagecraft Theatre's production focuses also on exploring how such things could have happened within the mindset of the age, and questions whether they could still happen.
