There’s nobody else like the Pixies! The music they produced through the late 80s and early 90s was like none before, though full of references and threads from earlier forms, and inspired musicians great and small all over the listening world.

Only a handful of New Zealanders have had the privilege of seeing the Pixies in the flesh, a situation unlikely to change much in the foreseeable future, so what are you going to do if you want to hear that music live?

Realizing this impossible situation needed someone to do something, Wellington’s Proxies got together at the end of 2006 and have been playing the music of the Pixies live to a widening audience of curious individuals, Pixies fans old and new, at indie bars around the city ever since, including the San Francisco Bath House in late January this year.

With no pretense of being the Pixies - there are five Proxies for a start! - they play the songs they love, for the challenge and fun of bringing them to life, and the sheer joy of playing like they mean it! Happiness and dancing ensue, and everyone gets to win the party!

Where is my mind? Add sweat, shrieks, big, big love, and waves of mutilation and, through the magic of dedication and because they really really want to, Proxies exist.

Join Frankly John, Janey Kim, Joey Turkish, Reverend Deal and Russ Lovebert at the San Francisco Bath House, Friday 23rd of May, for a night of mutilation, debasement, levitation, and Caribou, and you’ll be Blown Away. Keep your eyes out for the primate posters - these monkeys wanna go to heaven!
