The South New Brighton School Fair is back on Sunday 19th October with a new look and larger than ever format.

Mayor Bob Parker will be doing the opening honours for the Fair which blends in the unique seaside peninsula location of the school and the involvement of local community, businesses and community groups.

It is guaranteed to be a great family day out with many prizes on offer and an action packed line up of rides, entertainment and events from the 11am start time through to the finish at 3pm.

Feature events include the Big Dig where eager contestants will be frantically digging in the sand for hidden prizes and the opportunity to get through to the Grand Finale later in the Fair for the major prize round. You will be able to cheer on your favourite community group in the Tug of War challenges or a canine friend at the Dog Agility Course. The Super 14 Trophy will be on display and there will be the opportunity for a photo with this iconic piece of regular Canterbury silverware.

The Rides and Attractions line up takes on many dimensions with something for the big ones right down to the littlies including; Bouncy Castles, Climbing Tower, Big Slide, Boxing Ring, Merry Go Round and a choice of ride on a train, pony, mini hot rod car or even a Harley Davidson.

The various food stalls, with outdoor café style seating area, will be serving up a smorgasbord of food catering for meat lovers with the BBQs, for vegetarians through to the more sophisticated pallets wanting coffee and a slice of cake. Of course you can’t forget those fair favourites pop corn, candy floss, Mr Whippy and the likes.

The stage area will be radiating some great sounds with performances throughout the Fair including; Live Bands, the School Kapahaka Group, Bella a Capella Women's Choir and the local Kindergarten Children.

Children will be able to get into the festive spirit with the nail art, face painting and tattooing on offer and can be further entertained, if this is possible, in the games area with the skate park, lucky dips, mini golf, mystery prize games, sack races and basketball shoot-out.

There will be the ever popular Cakes-Sweets-Biscuits Stalls, Plant Stalls as well as the Arts and Crafts Area featuring work by school children, mums, local artists along with other items for sale.

Principal John Bockett is excited but nervous about the event and with good reason. Mr Bockett is awaiting his fate of "Raffle of the Principal" on Fair day where he will be giving up some time for the winner of this raffle. Children even now are saving up their pocket money so their well thought up and outrageous plans for their time with Mr Bockett can become a reality. The teachers also have not escaped possible retribution with ‘Sponge the Teacher’ on the programme.

Everyone is welcome to come and join in this unique and festive occasion which looks set to become a significant annual event for the Christchurch seaside areas.

Event will go ahead wet or fine.

Car parking on streets in the vicinity and in nearby domain.
