National Mural Contest – Katikati Open-Air Art Festival is a celebration of the arts – something for people of all ages. A chance for everyone to get involved in a hands-on way with a community art project, to see mural artists at work, vote for their favourite murals and sculptures, enjoy music, poetry, street entertainment, storytelling, cultural performances, photography, crafts, a raft race and much more.

It’s all happening in Katikati Mural Town where there are already more than 40 outdoor works of art and Katikati is the only planned Ulster settlement in the world so our history is something to celebrate.

The key event is the New Zealand Mural Contest – 8 finalists will be selected to paint in public to the festival theme of Journeys. They will be scattered throughout the town in shops, offices, banks, even a church and people will be able to watch the murals emerge over five days.

Katikati will be in festival mood throughout the week with a sculpture contest, children’s activities, an art exhibition plus guest artists, entertainers and craftspeople adding to the celebration.

Mural artists can register their interest now by emailing l.board@actrix.co.nz.
