White Swan Black Swan have just released their ‘double mini album’ and are about to head out on the road around the lakes, rivers and streams . . . North Island shows with the WSBS band and South Island with the WSBS duo.

The White Swan Black Swan double mini album contains two discs. The first features songs penned by White Swan, while the second features songs written by the Black Swan. It’s not two solo EPs/albums - but it’s not really one single band either.

Producer Mark Nevers mixed the double mini at the Beech House studios in Nashville USA. Mark is better know for his work with artists such as Lambchop, Calexico, the latest Bonnie Prince Billy, Andrew Bird and of course David Kilgour. The tracks for the double-mini were recorded at the nest-like Arch Hill Studios and the home of the Swans, snug among the trees at the base of an Auckland volcano.

Auckland based artist Henrietta Harris created two stunning paintings for the album artwork . . .

There is also a new video for the song Super 8 Movie ...the video was made by Black Swan from a large collection 1960s and 1970s old home movies about people the Swans don't know.

“White Swan is the drawled film score pop songs of Sonya Waters and Black Swan is the darker alt country songs of Arch Hill boss Ben Howe. Cat Power v Bonnie Prince Billy . . . they are the most handsome birds on the river now” 4/5 stars – The Sunday Star Times – James Belfield

" . . . the moods are more ethereal, melancholy, sonically spacious and gloriously melodic as they stalk territory between alt.country (with twanged Texas guitars), indie.rock and in places a European art music languor that is very appealing indeed. There is a cool, emotional distance sometimes on the White Swan disc which is entrancing; and the Black Swan disc errs more towards alt.country with wry lyrics. At heart however are utterly appealing songs which are deftly realised, beautifully understated and which sit neatly across a wide emotional and stylistic spectrum, but always sound like W/B Swan music. A lot of repeat-play listening." - Elsewhere.co.nz Graham Reid.

“The tone is not so much country as western. The disc was mixed in Nashville by Mark Nevers whose spacious, reverberant treatment of the twangy guitars, sparse piano and an occasional violin evoke wide desert landscapes, while the songs locate that desert somewhere in suburban New Zealand. The five songs on this debut EP when the appetite for a full album” - NZ Listener – Nick Bollinger

"If this double-disc release from White Swan Black Swan is a sign of things to come, then things to come are super sweet…It's Nancy and Lee calling to each other over a canyon, with a river of Morricone flowing beneath them. It's a two-horse town of sorrow and cool." Cheese On Toast – Matthew Crawley
