Over 40 jazz bands and 12 different stages over five days at Easter 2009 will keep audiences swinging at the 47th National Jazz Festival Tauranga.

International headline act are the four times Grammy award winning “The Blind Boys of Alabama” the legendary soul and gospel group from the United States. The Festival line up continues with jazz performers including Hollie Smith, Charmaine Ford, Phil Bradhurst’s Chick Corea Tribute Band, the Tropical Downbeat Orchestra and the New Zealand School of Music Big Band will also draw great crowds.

Celebrating the picturesque location, new additions to the Festival programme are the Jazz Village, and The Sebel Trinity Wharf Jazz Riverboat.

The Historic Village at 17t Avenue will be transformed into a version of the New Orleans French Quarter for two jam-packed days of jazz, barbershop quartets, buskers, tap-dancers, a Louisiana-style funeral marching band, and food stalls. A Mississippi riverboat experience will be recreated with cruises around the Tauranga harbour in the quaint Jazz Riverboat. As with previous years, the Downtown Tauranga Carnival and the Port of Tauranga Youth Jazz Competition complete the five day Jazz celebration.
