‘A MUST SEE’ for all yachting enthusiasts – young and old!

The 8th Southern Trust Classic Yacht Regatta is to be held on the Waitemata Harbour 13th, 14th & 15th February, organised by the Classic Yacht Association of New Zealand.

Racing this year will be held east of Bean Rock to avoid the congested inner harbour where the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series will be staged.

The expected entry list of 70+ classic yachts will include the 129 year old gaff cutter, Jessie Logan believed to be the oldest purpose built racing yacht in the world, Thelma and Waitangi (1897) Rainbow (1898) plus a host of other early 20th century vessels – Mulleties, H28’s, M Class, Stewart 34’s & Flying 15’s to name a few!

Special features Fidelis (1964), now sailing out of Sydney Harbour, who has sailed across the Tasman to renew old rivalries against the 60’ Lou Tercel designed Ranger.

The yachts racing in this spectacular three-day, four-race regatta will be in stark contrast to the racing of the America’s Cup type yachts further up the harbour. Vantage spots for watching the regatta will be St Heliers Beach, Achilles Point and Bastion Point.
