Wigs on the Waterfront® made its debut at Auckland’s Viaduct Basin in 2001, and has now become an iconic feature of the annual summer season of outdoor entertainment, attracting thousands of spectators to be entertained by the countries top drag artists, complimented by a large contingent of performers and entertainers from a broad spectrum within the entertainment industry.

“We are planning lots of surprises, including several award categories for performers, as well as audience members,” says Event Organiser, Wayne Nicholas. “So, this time around, we expect to see a lot more wigs at Wigs on the Waterfront.”

The fabulous Miss Ribena, and award winning duo, Buffy & Bimbo, will head the lineup of guest MC’s, while popular As-seen-on-TV personality, Suzanne Paul will be on hand to assist with judging and prize giving, including Natural Glow gift packs.

Originally based on Sydney’s ‘Frocks on the Rocks’, Wigs on the Waterfront® is a fabulous and unique community based entertainment experience, featuring more than 40 performers including drag artists, singers, dancers and musicians . . . a fund raiser combined with a good dose of fabulosity!

“This year, we are proud to support the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation,” says Nicholas. “More than 2,400 women and approximately 20 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, which is something that affects all members of the community, including my own family, and by offering proceeds from the event to the Foundation, we see this as another way to support and promote the gay community in a positive way.” All proceeds raised from this event will benefit the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundations initiatives and programmes.

“I am also pleased to announce that Maree Folwell, Queen of the Whole Universe producer, and a Wigs supporter since 2005, has now come on board as sponsorship & event coordinator, and anyone who would like to volunteer a few hours to help out on the day should contact Maree at or telephone (09) 528 2522, mobile 021 552 332.”

“In addition to major sponsors, such as Natural Glow, Fosters New Zealand and BigFM, Wigs on the Waterfront is supported by many of the Viaduct Restaurants, and we recommend that anyone wanting to make a reservation should do so soon, as tables are booking fast.”
