Coming off a whirlwind 2008 which has seen the group open for Broken Social Scene, perform at Camp Low Hum and win Hamilton's Band Experiments competition, Alex Manford Presents is pleased to announce Sora Shima as it's first show of 2009.

The post-rock group have already begun gathering comparisons to Jakob, and hot off the heels of their EP "Destroy Electronica", the Anglo-Kiwi outfit bid Auckland "moshi moshi" as they look to set The Basement alight with their ambient-cum-noise laden orchestral movements reminiscent of the likes of Sonic Youth, Mogwai and Amusement Parks on Fire.

Kittyhawk are no strangers to the Alex Manford family - having blown audiences away at the Invitational earlier this year, the group have opened for the likes of The Mint Chicks, Cosmic Rays of Death and performed at Camp Low Hum. Their cyclone of art rock, spazzcore, neon lights and infectious grooves have endeared them to listeners across the North Island and look to be setting more fires ablaze next year.

If Sora Shima had an incredible 2008, then God Bows To Math are in store for an epic 2009. Already favorites with seminal music blog Einstein Music Journal and regarded as one of the hottest new bands of 2008, their scuzzy, abrasive, angular stabs of music and equaled only by their sometimes lewd and aggressive on stage banter.

Newcomers The Neo-Kalashnikovs are proud to be grunge. They're proud to be an actual brother-sister two piece with a bold sound which would allude to their being more than a simple guitar/drum formula. Lead singer Volita Bioletti should be no stranger to audiences, having performed with The Romanovas in 2006, channeling a Riot Grrrl spirit with a Girl Power attitude.

Housed once more at The Basement and with beer offers before 12.00am, what better way to see in the upcoming seasons of AM gigs?
