• Steve Simpson (guitar/vocals) – Pash, The Exponents

With special guest Paul Roper (drums) – Mint Chicks

Rata & Sons play a unique and rollicking brand of what’s been described as ‘Lost Rock’. Lost Rock? Finding it’s like uncovering the treasure you’ve been searching for all this time. Sonically, this is where Oasis and The Jam meet Cheap Trick and Kings of Leon.

So how did this come about? Convening over several pints in early 2008 the ‘Sons’ (Carson, Sampson and Simpson) conjured up a beery vision of arm-swinging guitars, high-kicks and loud, good-time rock n roll. Things really ignited when vocalist Maia’s Rata’s soulful ‘Maori Magic’ was thrown into the mix. The result... well it’s very good for your health.

The Sons and Mr Rata have been joined for several shows this summer by Paul Roper while the and the Mint Chicks are home from Portland.

Lost Rock? Come and find out for yourself…

Royal Falcon

Five piece Auckland band Royal Falcon play sparse country/psychedelic songs merging simple tunes with expansive lead guitar and dark narratives to create something pretty intense.

Founding members Dan Pilkington (vocals, guitar) and Gareth Hays (bass) expanded
operations in late 2007 and Royal Falcon was born with the addition of Perry Hooper
(lead guitar), Kyla Dyresen (a classically trained pianist slumming it in a rock band) and Heath King (drums, percussion). The band has recently played with Steve Abel, Artisan Guns, Bear Cat and The Vietnam War, and is currently recording its debut album to follow up 2008’s self-titled EP.
