Tempest: Without a Body is a new dance work by one of our most original and controversial choreographers Lemi Ponifasio and MAU Dance Company. An angel with a broken body, wings crumpled and too small for flight, wanders on the landscape of blood and destruction. MAU, in their dance style of ceremonial ecstasy, emerge from the shadows to pray on the ruin of history. Ponifasio creates a poignant, poetic and frighteningly beautiful reflection on the post 9/11 world. Internationally acclaimed for his challenging and beautiful dance works, New Zealand-based Ponifasio and MAU perform regularly at major arts events such as the Holland Festival, Venice Biennale, and Vienna Festival. Tempest: Without a Body, which premiered in Vienna, is the latest version of his current performance series Tempest and features Ponifasio’s trademark intense intellectual choreography, and compelling imagery. Don’t miss the New Zealand premiere of this internationally acclaimed work. One performance only.

Auckland Festival 2009 brings the city alive next March with a dazzling programme of more than 200 arts and entertainment events, packed into eighteen exciting days. The biennial festival is a feast of theatre, dance, concerts, cabaret, exhibitions, family events and more, featuring some of the finest national and international artists and companies.
