The next generation of contemporary New Zealand actors take to the stage in 2009 in The Ensemble Project, building on the hugely successful AK07 incarnation that played to critical acclaim and capacity houses. Eight actors will be put through their paces by celebrated Auckland Directors Michael Hurst and Oliver Driver, creating two works that will then be performed in repertory during the Festival. Michael Hurst will direct Life is a Dream, an ‘excavated classic’ by Calderon de la Barca from the Spanish Golden Age that explores destiny, desire and illusion.

Auckland Festival 2009 brings the city alive next March with a dazzling programme of more than 200 arts and entertainment events, packed into eighteen exciting days. The biennial festival is a feast of theatre, dance, concerts, cabaret, exhibitions, family events and more, featuring some of the finest national and international artists and companies.
