Collaboration and cross-pollination between local and international artists and curators is a strong characteristic of the 2009 programme. New Zealand work will sit alongside that of international artists in two major group exhibitions. F for Fake and MASH UP.

F for Fake investigates notions of reality and fakery, asking how we know what’s real in this bewildering world of photoshop, CGI and plastic surgery. Curated by Emma Bugden (recently announced as the new ARTSPACE director) F for Fake examines the idea of mischief, both as an act of play and a political gesture. Taking Orson Wells’ infamous film as its title and starting point, the exhibition looks at tricks, counterfeits, confusion, pranks, re-enactment and repeats. F for Fake backtracks, does a double-up, and asks—what might we learn from repetition? Expect fakes, illusions and pranks in contemporary art – from gravity defying physical inventions, to the fine art of forgery. Artists include: Rod Dickinson, Gelatin, Karl F Sim aka C F Goldie, Glen Hayward, Ralph Hotere, Pierre Huyghe, Shigeyuki Kihara, Les Liens Invisibles, Dane Mitchell and Warren Olds.

Exhibiton runs from Saturday 7 March – Saturday 26 April.
Monday – Thursday 9.00am - 8.30pm
Friday – Sunday 10.00am – 4.00pm

Preview- Saturday 7 March, 2.00pm
