Further DJ info

Dick Johnson -
As a teenager Dick ‘Magik’ Johnson landed his own room DJing at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda club, before long he was producing tracks for Cream’s Olympic label, New Order’s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester’s Paper Recordings collective. From there he launched his own highly respected label Shaboom, releasing artists such as UBU, Joeski & Onionz, Fred Everything, Doc Martin and DJ Sneak.

Other releases of late include ‘Scanning For Viruses’ on Jesse Roses' Made to Play, ‘Eastern Lights’ on Nic Fanciulli’s Saved and ‘Asylum Sneaker’ on King Unique's Curfew label. Along with releases on such influential imprints as Made To Play, Twisted, End Recordings, Saved, Underwater, Paper Recordings, KG Beats and NRK/Honchos and his own digital label Majiktrax.

Prolific in the studio his catalogue of remixes include The Crookers, Spektrum, Worthy, Ian Pooley, Crazy Penis, Dj Sneak, Joey Negro, Q-Burns, Human League, Neon Heights, Nick Holder, Darko Esser, The Bionics, Onionz, The Karoshi Brothers, 30HZ and Bassnectar.

Content with confinement to his Auckland studio? No. It’s a rare weekend indeed that Majik is not behind the decks electrifying a crowd of dedicated followers, testing these tunes on dancefloors from Russia to Argentina and most points in between.

Roger Perry -

One of the very few totally intuitive DJ’s, you can hand Roger an unknown record mid set and he’ll give it perfect placement. He feels the music and has a genuine love for what he does and a respect for the intrepidity of what he plays and those who create music. That has allowed him to become a creator himself and that passion is evident in his music.

He has been a driving force in the musical culture of his country and it is fair to say that New Zealand would be a very different, and lesser place without him. The respect he has from both his peers and the generations after him who owe him so much, is both evident and no less than is his due.

Soane -

Soane began his DJ career back in 1989 at Club Roma and The Box. Cutting up Hip-Hop and RnB under the moniker Big Daddy. Since then his record collection has amassed to colossal proportions and nowadays you’ll hear him spinning sweet house, funk and bring the party on dance tunes.

Nick D

Television producer, presenter, promoter and dj extraordinaire, Dick Knee is one of New Zealand’s most respected music media reporters. Djing breaks and electronic dance, with support slots to Roni Size, DJ Marky, DJ Zinc and Goldie, Consistently associated with quality dance music, Nick D has travelled the world exploring different nations and what they offer musically.
