Debussy Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune
Massenet Méditation from Thaïs
Ravel Pavane pour une Infante Défunte

This concert features music by French composers, who always have a sense of transparency of texture and a vivid feeling for orchestral colour. This programme was highly acclaimed in 2008 and is repeated by popular request.
The centerpiece is Berlioz' Summer Nights which is a series of poems capturing various moods of the season. It is set for singer and orchestra, the soloist is Emma Roxburgh.
Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie Suite is a collection of entertaining dances from the17th century composer's opera in the baroque style.
Two popular pieces fill out the programme:
Massenet's Méditation from Thaïs which features the WCO's concert master, Elena Abramova, and Debussy's impressionist masterpiece Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune.

Emma Roxburgh began her singing training at the University of Otago, graduating from there with a BA and Bmus(hons) in Voice. She went on to further study in the UK at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, completing a Professional Performance Diploma in 1998. (PPRNCM) She has performed regularly on the concert platform both in New Zealand and Britain, is a member of the Chapmann Tripp Opera Chorus and is also one of NBR NZ Opera’s current Resident Artists. Roles include Lucia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, (RNCM) Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro, (Wellington City Opera) Susanna in Figaro, (Opera Factory) Ramiro in La Finta Giardiniera (Opera Unleashed) and Jano in last year’s acclaimed NBR NZ Opera’s production of Jenufa. Covers for the same company have included Siebel in Faust and Second Lady in Magic Flute. She will sing the role of Hortense in NBR NZ Opera’s production of The Opera Ball in this year’s Auckland Festival. Concert engagements for 2009 include Messiah with South Auckland Choral and Bachianas Brasileiras No.5 by Villa-Lobos with the newly-formed Ensemble Polymnia.
