Manukau Festival of Arts 09 makes a welcome return, showcasing and bringing talent to Manukau in what will be one of the most exciting events on the calendar this year.
Mayor Len Brown says he is proud to have an established festival of arts in Manukau and wants everyone in the city to join in this year’s festivities and attend the many events being offered.
“Not only are we showcasing the brilliance of our own artists but we’re also proving that Manukau is a fantastic place to bring national and international artists.”
Some of the big shows coming to town include Ardijah, Strike, the side-splitting comedy Strictly Brown and MAU.
For the youth of the city, Southside Gig, featuring Nesian Mystik and Smashproof are going to perform at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre.
And for the not so young, a band that needs no introduction – Ardijah will also be performing with special guests Whirimako Black, Ruia Aperahama and Che Fu.
The Kila Kokonut Crew bring their new show Strictly Brown, to Manukau, in partnership with the Auckland Theatre Company - it is guaranteed to be a ‘full phat night’ of entertainment.
Manukau’s own iconic fashion extravaganza, Villa Maria Cult-Couture, is back - classier than ever.
The Manukau Film Festival makes a welcome return with screenings city-wide. A new event, the Colour the Sky kite flying day at Manukau’s new Barry Curtis park, is a must see attraction for the kids.
Manukau’s art centres and galleries will have a broad range of visual art and the Auckland Botanic Gardens will be bringing back the popular ‘Stoneleigh Sculpture in the Gardens.’
There is something for everyone. Theatre, dance, music and visual arts. Visit www.mfa.org.nz for full programme details, or pick up a copy of the programme from your nearest library or arts centre.
