About Feathered Friends
In the beginning we were dinosuars and life was easy. We just walked around and ate each other, but sadly this way of life slowly began to resperate so we needed solutions-therefore we grew wings and became Feathered Friends.... but no really this is how it actually came about: The Feathered Friends started out as two mates Tom Lee +Richards and Owen Coupe jamming at Owen's pad in Collingwood... At first they had no idea dingo they had stumbled upon a creative force more powerful than they had ever imagined, as they jammed around with some funky / groovy riffs, changing instruments and being mainly experimental. Monique was the 3rd member to join - her natural vocal abilty was not only maluable to what the boys were doing but also fantastically captivating and moving...The balls were now rolling, all they needed was some more melodic colour and a solid beat-keeper. Ritchie, who happens to be a Saxamaphone and keyboard genius was poached through Owen's good friend Jess Keegan and Will- a frenetically groovy drummer, by another friend who also happened to be named Jess.

As exciting new sounds were being created and a constant talking up of the project echoed through out the land it was as if these final two members were meant to be in the band....The picture now all made sense.. Tom texted through to Owen one morning "well hello my feathered friend" and a name was born.... The overall sound is now very eclectic, though a few common elements continue to shine through; consistantly well contructed songs with catchy melodies and rich - buttery harmonies.... No one really takes the lead at one set time- the lime light is shared around and all songs are written collaboratively! Funk / Groove / Reggae /pop Tastic Baby!

Anything But Federal (ABF for short) have come a long way from their humble beginnings when local friends Ben Ruegg (guitar & vocals), Michelle Anderson (bass) and Paul Rishworth (drums) got together to jam one day and ended up writing 'Butterfly Effect' that would eventually become the opening track on their debut self titled EP. Although the songs on the EP all had a different sound, they eventually settled with the genre of alternative rock. Their first single 'Amongst Others' received rave reviews and airplay on the nation wide radio station The Rock FM.

Butterfly Effect was the second single released and it also received airplay on The Rock FM. It also became their first music video, which aired on C4 and Alt TV. It went without saying that ABF were a force to be reckoned with. But after Michelle left the band, Jonny Miles (guitar) shortly joined the trio and then Kevin Pilgrim (bass) turned the band into a fatal four way. The addition of a second guitar added to a heavier level of sound to the band. .
