The French Club are at it again! Following previous year's plays such as 'La Panthère Rose' and Tintin's 'Les Bijioux de la Castafiore', this years French play will be 'Les Fourberies de Scapin', a farcical comedy written by Molière in 1671.

In the absence of their overbearing parents, Octave has secretly married Hyacinthe and Léandre has secretly married Zerbinette. Upon the discovery of their son's marriage , Léandre's father Geronte and Octave's mother Argante are both furious with their sons and are determined to break up the two couples. In desperation, Octave and Léandre employ Scapin to come to their rescue. Scapin is a skilled trickster, and thanks to his many tricks and lies, he manages to manipulate the parents into letting their son's stay married, and like in any good story, they all live happily ever after.

This is not to be missed by anyone as Molière is one of the most renowned French playwrights. To see one of his plays performed live on stage in New Zealand is indeed a rare opportunity.

While the play will be performed in French, we will have sufficient English narration accompanying many of the scenes to ensure comprehension for non French speakers and beginners. Moreover, our performance will involve a maximum level of physical and visual humour which will guarantee everybody’s enjoyment, no matter what level of French they possess.

The evening perfromance are on Thursday 10 September, Friday 11 September and Saturday 12 September, all at 7:30pm at the Memorial Theatre in the Student Union Building.

There is also a matinée performance at 1pm on Friday the 11th of September.

The cost is $8 for students, $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets can be booked at, otherwise there are door sales.

Directed by Brooke Smith-Harris and Kathryn Lees.
