Crowded House have announced a special ‘one-off’ concert at Auckland’s Town Hall on Thursday 8, April.

Ahead of their sixth album release, Crowded House will be giving their fans a sample of the new material, as well as a smattering of old favs.

Crowded House ‘live’, have always delivered and the band make it their mission to be one of the best live bands on tour, every show, every day.

Neil Finn has crafted some of the most memorable lyrics and melodies in music starting with those first bars of ‘One Step Ahead’ and ‘I Got You’ and is one of the most gifted songwriters to perform on the world stage in the last 25 years.

Together with fellow musicians; Nick Seymour, Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod, Finn as front man and creative force behind the band Crowded House has provided us with a rich tapestry of songs from the band including; ‘Don’t Dream its Over’, ‘Something So Strong’,’Fall At Your Feet’ ‘Weather With You (with Tim Finn)’, ‘Four Seasons in One Day’,’ Distant Sun’, ‘Locked Out’,’She Called Up’ not to mention five Crowded House albums of exceptional depth and colour.

In January 2007 after a ten year hiatus the group publicly announced their reformation. At the time Neil said; “We are an unfolding story. Loads of bands reform, but how many commit themselves to being a band to all intents and purposes after ten years? …. The songs have endured and the spirit of the band has endured”.

Crowded House released ‘Time On Earth’ in 2007, their first album since the highly acclaimed ‘Together Alone’ (1993). The reunited band played a series of international dates and festivals as well as three sold-out New Zealand shows in October 2007.

Since then, Crowded House have been writing and developing 11 brand new songs and in 2009 the band began recording new tracks for a new album at Neil’s Roundhouse Studios in Auckland. The new single and album (as yet untitled), produced by Jim Scott (Santana, Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Tom Petty, Wilco), are due for release in March and May respectively. Finn has stated the album contains some “unexpected twists and turns” and a few songs that “sound like nothing we’ve done before”.

Reviews from the 2007 shows said;

"So musically, it sparked bright and bold, almost like they had never been away. Certainly, it felt different, more straightforward than the anything-might-happen Crowdies gigs when the late Paul Hester was so much a part of the band's live X-factor. But that was then. Now, Crowded House are still a great live band and their songs endure." Russell Baillie – NZ Herald

"Neil Finn and the boys proved to be a tight, professional unit, altering tempo and atmosphere at will with a set packed full of older and newer hits ….. Finn is an experienced showman, and he rallied the crowd around him - creating an intimacy rarely seen at Vector." Chris Schultz - Stuff
