All are welcome to the opening night of Wellington based artist Miss Mica's current exhibition Tread Softly, Friday night, 23rd April / 6-8pm.

Miss Mica Still lands in Auckland with an assortment mischievous art works.

Tread Softly: Be nice, be sneaky, be careful what you say.

The title of Miss Mica’s exhibition conceals the real sentiment behind her work. “These works amuse me. The key to their success for me is the fact they make me giggle. They express things I could never say out loud – desire, frustration, anger, fears and fantasies.”

The drawings in this exhibition are inspired by Mica’s collection of plastic realistic toy animals. “I have been using these as a starting point to compose my work. After a few strokes of the pen knows what they want to do and I develop the plot in the work. The character tells me if they want to be naughty or nice, love or hate. I try not to censor the conversations I have with my drawings.”

Miss Mica’s paintings develop from a similar process but the inspiration is drawn more often from her dreams in which the animals symbolize the primal human instincts of experiences of rage and desire. However the playfulness of the work asks the viewer to consider the lighter side of life and enjoy the ride

'Tread Softly' runs from 23rd April to 6 May.
