Yes ladies and gents Forbidden Joe cordially invite you to mourn the release of their new album: 'In Mourning for The Pride of Petravore'.

Featuring special guests who performed on the album, and support from The Old Reserve - Roger Giles and Greg Whitcombe at their most ridiculous.

The Auckland based group release their full length album on April 16th, heralding the first performance at the Victoria Theatre in Devonport, Auckland, open to the public since the building fell into disrepair.

'In Mourning for the Pride of Petravore' is a natural follow on from their light and quirky EP, the independently released 'Oh, What a Queer Sensation' (2008) which is representative of their earlier work, and shows how the trio's sound has progressed to encompass a darker, more mysterious cabaret sound. Their repertoire makes for an energy laden night of quirky, mysterious and unusual folk.

The much anticipated album was recorded in the historic theatre during February 2010. Set against the polarities of lush back-lit stage curtains, peeling plaster, great chandelier and vast acoustics, and surrounded by relics of yesterday's screenings, the trio worked intensively to produce an album that captured their own unique take on folk music, with acclaimed sound engineer Steve Garden of Rattle Records and talented musical guests to complement their sound. 'In Mourning for the Pride of Petravore' showcases the band's musical journey from their earliest works through to their latest most driving set of tunes and songs.

Since forming in late 2007 Forbidden Joe aka: (Frances Dickinson, Emily June Giles and Alex Borwick) have toured their quirky show of songs and tunes around New Zealand, headlining major music festivals from the Bay of Islands south to Dunedin and everywhere in-between.

In the two years that they have been together, they have created a storm on the NZ alt-folk scene. By bringing together their diverse musical backgrounds and influences of jazz, soul, Celtic and folk, and their unique instrumentation of Concertina, Banjo, Cello and Trombone, this eclectic line up of musicians has created an unprecedented contemporary folk sound which is attracting rave reviews from around the country.

Tickets are $20 on the door, or $17 pre-sales from Marbecks Devonport and www.undertheradar.co.nz

"Emotionally direct... an intelligent and enticing melange of many old styles…you can hear why people are so taken with them" - Graham Reid, Elsewhere.

"Inventive arrangements of old folk songs... Evocative, fresh, and a bit theatrical" - Nick Bollinger, National Radio.
