The Nigel Patterson Trio are pleased to announce the release of heir debut album “Invocation” with a 4 date North Island Tour.

The Nigel Patterson Trio was formed in 2007 out of a love for the piano trio format and a vision for composing and performing original jazz inspired compositions. This release tour will also see the tour being joined by Speciial guest Jabin Ward(Black Seeds) on Tenor Saxophone

Led by Nigel Patterson, one of New Zealand’s finest keyboardists/composers (The Black Seeds, Fly My Pretties) with support from Tim Jaray on Double-Bass and Peter Elliot on Drums the trio combines expert musicianship with passion and creativity.

Inspired by such greats as Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellingotn, Mal Waldron, McCoy Tyner and many others The NP Trio creates a contemporary, sophisticated and digestable take on the jazz idiom.

From alternative metres through mood ballads and uptempo swings the NP Trio seeks to bring through the edgier side of jazz whilst retaining the melodic and emotional character of the music.

The trio has performed throughout Wellington including the 2007 Wellington International Jazz Festival. Last year it held a residency at the prestigious Wellington bar The Hawthorn Lounge.

2010 sees the release of the trio’s debut album “Invocation”

Engineered by Lee Prebble and mastered by Mike Gibson at Bonfire Studios “Invocation” contains 10 tracks of all original material composed by Nigel Patterson and performed by the trio. It marks the beginning of Nigel Patterson as a jazz pianist/composer and also the trio as a performing/recording ensemble. Due for release in NZ in APRIL 2010. The album is self-released and distributed through Rhythm Method.
