Buddha’s Birthday, the most important event of the year for the Buddhist community, commemorates the birth, enlightenment and final Nirvana of Buddha and is observed by Buddhists throughout the world.

Fo Guang Shan Temple will be celebrating the Buddha’s Birthday with a Buddha’s Day Multicultural Festival and everyone is invited to join us in this celebration.

Activities for this Festival include prayers for world peace by leaders of various religious groups; bathing of the Buddha ceremony; baby blessing ceremony, cultural exhibitions; arts, crafts and calligraphy. Come and enjoy the lion dances, multicultural performances and sample the array of delicious vegetarian food at the food fair. The children’s wonderland offers fun for the whole family, with a bouncing castle, games, baby crawling competition and face painting.

The Buddha’s Day Multicultural Festival is an opportunity to welcome the Auckland community to Fo Guang Shan Temple. Humanistic Buddhism, propagated by the Temple, promotes respect and understanding within the society, building bridges of friendship and communication, bringing harmony and peace among family, friends, colleagues and the community.

This event is jointly organized by the Buddha’s Light International Association (North Island) and the International Buddhist Trust of New Zealand.

Admission is free and food vouchers can be purchased from reception on the day.
