The National Male Choir of New Zealand will perform at St George's Church in Takapuna.

Experience the magic of New Zealand's leading male choir.

The National Male Choir of New Zealand is formed from auditioned members from throughout the country. The choir comprises 66 singing members from Bluff to North Auckland. All members are passionate about singing and enjoy the camaraderie the choir offers.

The choir rehearses monthly, in two sections, one in the North Island, the other in the South. The practices aim at personal and collective vocal improvement as well as repertoire preparation. Collectively, usually twice a year, the two sections meet, rehearse and perform.

The choir repertoire is broad ranging from formal choral works, folk, popular, show, sacred and gospel, through to New Zealand Waiata. At this concert the audience will have the opportunity to hear a song cycle composed by Philip Norman commissioned to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the foundation of the choir in October 2009.

Since its inception the choir has toured NZ and overseas including concerts in England, Wales and Ireland (2005) and Melbourne (2007). On 2 July The choir embarks on a tour of Europe competing at the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen Wales. This will be followed by performances at St Georges Chapel Windsor, Notre Dame Cathedral and La Madeleine Church Paris, and concerts in Salzburg and Vienna.

The choir has an interest in fostering and maintaining an enthusiasm for male singing and aims to show how this can be a rewarding, enjoyable and creative activity.

The choir aims to celebrate the beauty of male singing with New Zealand communities through several regional New Zealand concerts a year.

The musical director, Mr Robert Aburn (Bachelor of Music (With Honours) Diploma of Teaching (Distinction) ATCL,LTCL,LRSM) was appointed as Musical Director in February 2007.
Robert was a foundation member of the National Youth Choir of New Zealand. In 2004, he was awarded the Vernon Griffiths Graduate prize for outstanding musical leadership, bestowed by the University of Canterbury, and from 2004 to 2006, was a guest lecturer in the University of Canterbury choral programme.

Robert fosters the promotion of music of our own country and also shares that music with audiences both nationally and internationally.

At this concert the choir will be supported by the Geelong Welsh Ladies Choir who will be touring New Zealand. The choir was formed in 1998 to support the Welsh profile at the National Folk Festival held annually at Geelong. In 2004 they organised a concert tour to Wales delighting many audiences with their performances as well as the novel idea of an Australian choir singing Welsh music.

The choir is also well supported by the valued experienced musical team of choir accompanist Sylvia Watson and assistant accompanist Judy Barrett.

The choir is led by Musical Director Jeanette John and Accompanist Rosemary Calderazzo.

Tickets will also be sold at the door.
