Calling all singer/songwriters 8 - 17 years old, this is your chance to shine!

Calls to enter the Wellington School of Rocks first songwriters’ competition on Saturday the 10th of April are going out around schools all over Cultural Capital. Our future rock entrepreneurs aged 8-17, will take part in this competition as part of the ZEAL venue launch to be held at the new venue site 103 Ghuznee Street.

Wellington School of Rock events are here to help the local youth music and arts community grow and in collaboration with ZEALs exciting move to a bigger and better premises, this allows an exciting increase in the number of young people involved in all their programs.

“At the Wellington School of Rock we nurture and develop emerging talent through our band mentorship program,” says School of Rock director Hannah Cherry. “Our closer association with ZEAL in the new venue will create an awesome atmosphere for the youth of the Wellington region to explore their skills in not only music, but also photography, dance, barista coffee making, management and media training. The song writers competition is a way to explore and show case young talent on the seams of our thriving community ready to be stitched into what we provide making them a key part of our flavor.”

ZEALs new space boasts an after-school cafe, four creative spaces and a performance space with room for over 300 young people. The opening will see a huge selection of high-school-aged bands, artists and acoustic performers coming together to put their mark on the new space.

To kick off the new space in style prospective singer song writers are asked to register to with their name, age, school, contact number and 100 words about themselves and their music. Registration costs $5.

Competition prizes include a live spot along side iconic New Zealand songwriter John Hanlon and Cherry Gemstone along with other awesome prizes from Music Works and association with Zeal acoustic and Wellington School of Rock events.

Members of the public are welcome to come see these future stars perform at the rock and acoustic shows on 9th and 10th of April.
