Hot on the heels of their two, triumphant, sell-out Auckland concerts just under two weeks ago at the Powerstation and Vector Arena, Pixies - Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering – announce they will return to New Zealand this August for one very special concert, in Christchurch.

Following their resounding North Island reception The Pixies acknowledged a visit to the Mainland was mandatory. After the Christchurch concert, Pixies will headline at the Summersonic Festival in Japan.

Formed in Boston in 1986, Pixies had a vast influence on bands like Nirvana, Radiohead, Blur and Weezer, and on the emergence of alternative and grunge rock. Disbanding in 1993 but reunited since 2004 they have become a huge drawcard in the UK, Europe and Australia.

On their first ever visit to New Zealand this month, Pixies enthralled their devotees with a two hour set that celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the seminal Doolittle album, featuring legendary tracks such as Debaser, Here Comes Your Man and Hey, plus a raft of B sides and more obscure numbers from their catalogue (“so obscure”, joked Kim Deal, “we had to learn how to play them all over again”).

In Christchurch, Pixies will perform an assortment of songs drawing from their vast catalogue.

Tickets on sale Monday 29 March at 9am.
