Fran Barton and the Kevin Clark Trio will brighten up your day when they present an entertaining romp through the fun side of the jazz repertoire at Old St Paul’s – from ragtime through New Orleans and swing to bop.

The program will include humorous jazz songs such as “The Gentleman is a Dope”, “Squeeze Me but Please Don’t Tease Me”, “Don’t You Feel My Leg”, “I Was a Little Too Lonely and You Were A Little Too Late” some originals and some favourites of Peggy Lee and Dianna Kral.

Fran Barton - Larynxophone; Kevin Clark - piano, trumpet (at the same time); Aaron Stewart - double bass; and Reuben Bradley - drums.

Vocalist Fran and pianist-trumpeter-arranger-composer Kevin have been working together since the early '70s in television, radio, live performances at festivals, studio recordings, restaurants and private and corporate functions. Fran is on three of Kevin’s CDs - and will be remembered by many for her sparkling performances with Kevin on the Brian Edwards weekly live to air TV show in the late '70s.

Kevin is one of New Zealand’s most celebrated jazz musicians and composers, having been awarded two NZ Music Award Tuis for Best Jazz Album - in 2003 and 2005. “Zahara”, his latest, was a finalist in the 2007 Awards. His CDs sell steadily overseas and are played on radio stations in the USA and South Africa. The popular CD “Don’t You Feel My Leg” features Fran with music from her television and radio performances and Kevin’s jazz CDs.

Regulars at Hot Club Sandwich performances at OSP will be familiar with Kevin’s guest appearances on trumpet (and piano at the same time) with HCS.

With Kevin and Fran are drummer Reuben Bradley and bassist Aaron Stewart, two of Wellington’s finest rhythm section players.
