The Film Archive presents a new exhibition that explores Auckland through the lens of music videos shot in and around the landscapes of the supercity.

West coast beaches, the harbour bridge, Rangitoto and the Sky Tower, heritage buildings, suburban communities, downtown office blocks and other local spots are all backdrops in some of our favourite music clips. This exhibition collects together some of the diverse images of Auckland that have accumulated in popular culture.

The clips go from 1963 through to the present. Local genres are explored - "West-coast beaches" - the Auckland equivalent of a white studio video, as well as "Heritage sites" and "Re-imagining".

Included in the show are classics such as The Androids "I don't want to be in Auckland tonight" and Suburban Reptiles "Megaton", as well as Chris Knox, Bic Runga, Sisters Underground, Che Fu, Liam Finn, Antiform, Decortica and many more.

An accompanying video features selected directors. Keith Hill, Joe Lonie, Andrew Moore, James Solomon and Sally Tran talk about their videos and the places they made them.

The exhibition also features graf art by Gasp and design by Deus.
