They will be on stage at Williamson Park from 8pm. The Whangamata Summer Festival is run by a not for profit community group who fund raise all year round, in order to provide a focus for youth, young families, locals, holiday makers and the elderly, by staging night time concerts, volleyball competitions, skate competitions, a kids' holiday programme and a huge craft market day. This evening's music is the 3rd night of a six night programme with a wide range of musical genres - something for everyone's taste!

The Midnights have been developing their unique brand of reggae, rock and soul music in the NZ live scene since 2003 and are finally about to release their eagerly anticipated debut long player. An energetic and original live show has seen The Midnights graduate from playing house parties, ambushing folk evenings and gigging in some of Auckland's seediest bars to performing on the national festival circuit where they have developed an impressive resume with performances alongside UB40, The Wailers, Third World, The Skatalites, Maxi Priest, Arrested Development, Big Youth among many others. The Midnights have also performed with every one of the top names in New Zealand's reggae and dub scene. The Midnights' self titled debut is an eclectic and original headphone masterpiece incorporating smoky urban reggae, low-fi digital dub, raw and rhythmic ska and psychedelic soul influences.

Hailing from Hawke's Bay, Phil Edwards has a distinctive summer feel to his soulful songs which tell the stories of a man trying to fulfil his dreams while going through the troubles of heartbreak. Every song written by Phil Edwards has a strong personal element to it, he says "If I don't feel it I won't sing it". Since the early age of 14, Phil has been jamming along to his musical heroes on the guitar and perfecting his vocals so the now 23 year old has a polished sound that reflects his years of experience.

In 2009 Phil Edwards signed a deal with 272 Records to release the "I'm No Fool" on their compilation CD Acoustika. 272 Records is a records company based in California who are involved in helping up and coming artists get their music into the open. With an acoustic summer feel - Phil and his band are sure to fit right in down by the beach in an open air concert in summertime!

Please note: A public liquor ban will be enforced throughout the holiday period.
