Auditions for the NZ Theatre Premiere of The Scarlet Pimpernel; Directed by Bruce Murray with Music Direction by Campbell Downie will be held at the Centrestage Theatre in Orewa.

Friday 12th February 7pm – 10pm and Saturday 13th February 10am – 5pm.

Open to all adult ages (see parts available below) Must bring prepared song with sheet music. Must phone to book an audition time on 09 426 7282

The Scarlet Pimpernel is a musical with music by Frank Wildhorn and lyrics and book by Nan Knighton, based on the novel of the same name by Baroness Orczy. The show is set in England and France during the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution. The story is a precursor to the spy fiction and the superhero genres, where a hero hides under a mild-mannered alias.

Parts available
• Percy: Tenor/baritone 20 & 30’s. Leading man; dashing, master of disguise, good
comedic timing, married to Marguerite, must go from dandy fop to sword wielding hero,
must move well, must have good English accent
• Marguerite: Mezzo 20 & 30’s. Beautiful, an actress; married to Percy; very passionate about her
husband, her brother and her country, must move well, must sing and speak with French
• Chauvelin: Tenor/Baritone; 20 & 30’s. Antagonist; passionate; intense; commanding presence; in love with Marguerite; must move well; must sing and speak with French accent.
• Armand: Marguerite's brother; 20 & 30’s; a little naïve, a member of the League of the Scarlet
Pimpernel, must sing and speak with a French accent; will double in the ensemble.
• Marie: 20 & 30’s. Strong minded, an artist, Tussaud’ s wife, French; will double in the ensemble
• Tussaud: 20 & 30’s. Marie’s husband; French; will double in the ensemble.
• Mercier/Coupeau/Robespierre: 18+: All part of the French Revolution and working with Chauvelin. French accents, will double in the ensemble
• Ozzy/Dewhurst/Elton/Farleigh/Hal/Ben: 16+. Members of the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel. All must sing and move well, must be able to go from dandy fops to courageous heroes, all will play
multiple roles, all must sing and speak with good English accents.
• Prince of Wales: 18+. English, is larger than life character: will double in the ensemble
• Female ensemble cover the following roles: Cupids, Parisian mob, Prisoners, Wedding guests, Ball guests, Stall holders, Servants

The Scarlet Pimpernel will play at the Centrestage Theatre June 26 to July 10 2010.
