Come and join us for our national day at Waitangi Park, where the partnership between Tangata Whenua and the Crown is celebrated. There's traditional kapa haka, contemporary music, Māori and kiwi-influenced kai (food) and craft stalls.
Wellington's youngsters have planned a programme of activities for our rangatahi (youth) - there's hip-hop dance, poi and haka demonstrations and the chance to try your hand at making unique New Zealand crafts. There will also be storytelling for the younger children, with a focus on the Treaty and the Māori world.
If you would like to improve your knowledge of the Treaty or New Zealand history since the signing in 1840, there will be community stalls and speakers running free, fun workshops in our activity area. See the whiteboard on the day for times.
Our national day at Waitangi Park where lots of different cultures are hosted by tangata whenua. There’s kapa haka, drumming, dance, music, kai and craft stalls, fun and games for children and, of course, a delicious traditional hangi to treat your tastebuds.
