Eastland Group, Kia Motors and Port venues are proud to announce the 1st Annual Gisborne International Jazz and Blues Festival.

The festival is being presented in all six bars at the Port area: Wharf Bar, The Works, Shed 3, Soho, Tatapouri Fishing Club and the new Gisborne Lone Star over two days of outstanding music on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th of January 2010.

The festival features top musicians from The USA, United Kingdom, New Zealand and local based favorites.

Organizer Billy Te Kahika says: ‘This festival is an opportunity to have some world class Blues and Jazz musicians perform in Gisborne at one great location such as the Port area in a high quality presentation’.

Eastland Group spokes person Bridgette Penny also comments: ‘Last summer we did a great low key Jazz and Blues event in the Port area and had about 1500 people and we saw that Gisborne locals and tourists really appreciated it – so we decided that this year we would go all out and present an international event like this to the Gisborne community and we are very excited about the opportunity to do so’

The musicians are: Diana Harris, Los Angeles (Blues, Rock n Roll), Edna Love, San Francisco (Soul, Blues) Billy TK jnr and Billy TK, NZ (Blues, Blues Rock), Caitlin Smith, New Zealand (Jazz), Tony Painting and Power Band (U.K), Los Diablos, Australia (Blues) Liquid Colors (Modern Jazz) and very special guest, Blues Legend, Hammond Gamble. Also featuring will be the best of Eastland talent and a stage hosted by the Gisborne Blues Society.

The event is a fundraiser for the highly acclaimed road safety campaign, DRIVING TOWARDS A FUTURE’s visit to East Coast High Schools next March 2010. The campaign is aimed at school aged drivers as well as passengers and has visited 170 schools.
