Wayne Youle’s exhibition It’s the Simple Things is set to open at Suite.

The exhibition follows Youle’s successful project last year, Where You Stay? that involved 100 people being tattooed, on site at Suite, with a 125mm tall/black outline map of Aotearoa. The work was commissioned by TVNZ’s New Artland programme.

It’s the Simple Things continues to explore themes of identity and life as Youle reflects on the elements that have influenced his own family’s learning and progression.

It’s the Simple Things includes 29 oil on linen paintings. These are arranged as six works and represent a two-dimensional synopsis of recent concepts executed by Youle through sculpture and mixed media artworks. A cluster of small sculptural works provides the link back to the third dimension.

Born in 1974, Youle (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Whakeeke, Ngāti Pākehā) is well established as one of New Zealand’s pre-eminent artists. His distinct practice continues to highlight - with both tact and humour – issues that are close to the heart of many New Zealanders.

It’s the Simple Things is the artist’s second solo exhibition at Suite gallery.
