Wanda Mania! New Auckland venue!
The 72 year old Queen Of Rock-A-Billy must be winning hearts everywhere!
Currently resident on 95bFM’s top ten she hasn’t been to New Zealand since 1972 when she shook hands with the then-Prime Minister, Norman Kirk.
Since then she’s raised a family, been covered by The Clash, The Cramps, and most recently The Fall, rocked stages across the so called civilised world, been inducted into Rock and Roll and Rock-A-Billy halls of fame everywhere, and even had Wanda Jackson day and a street named after her in hometown of Oklahoma City!
Her new album comes out in September through Jack White’s Third Man records.
Championed by such heavyweights as Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan (who personally reccommended that she record his Thunder On The Mountain for her afore mentioned album) - this one time girl friend of Elvis Presley was once described by Lemmy as ‘female Little Richard’.
Enough name dropping - on Tuesday the 22nd June she will rock Auckland!
It’s all go for the little lady with the nasty voice!
Due to unexpected demand for her only Auckland show on Tuesday 22nd June, it has now moved from the Studio.
Originally booked for the Kings Arms, and then later moved to the Studio.
