At 8:30pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010, towns and cities across the world will celebrate Earth Hour by turning off their lights for one hour to take a stand against climate change.

Britomart, Heart of the City, Auckland City Council, MORE FM and WWF NZ are proud to be hosting Auckland City's Earth Hour 2010 celebration!

Hop on the bus, train, cycle, or walk your way to Takutai Lawn in Britomart on the corner of Tyler and Gore Sts in downtown Auckland. Bring your picnic rug, bean bags, snacks and candles, and be entertained by great kiwi acts while we count down to Auckland CBD plunging into darkness, kick started with a 5 minute lighting display on the Sky Tower from 8:25pm.

And the best part - its free!

The carbon friendly event starts at 7:30pm, come early to get your spot. We've got candles if you forget! Not enough for everybody, but we've got your back just in case.

New Zealand Folk star Mel Parsons will be bringing her intimate, melodic sound outdoors to perform at the inaugural Auckland City Earth Hour Celebration! She'll be playing songs from her album 'Over My Shoulder' - nominated for Folk Album of the Year at the New Zealand Music awards.

And joining the lineup is one-man band Chris Cope (some of you may recognise him from his earlier work with NZ band eight!) with a mature, yet playful, approach to his art. Take the musical nous and pop sensibility of John Mayer, add a pinch of Jeff Buckley's virtuoso soul, and deliver it through grounded lyrics to complete the package.

Please note: There is a liquor ban in the area sorry people, but bring all the non alcoholic beverages and sweets you like.
