You are invited to a talk by North American artist Harrell Fletcher on the occasion of his research visit to Auckland in advance of his Artspace exhibition in 2011.

Fletcher creates socially engaged interdisciplinary projects, involving drawing, video, net art, and performance. Fletcher has exhibited at SF MoMA, the de Young Museum, The Berkeley Art Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in SF, Real Art Ways in Hart ford, The Drawing Center, Socrates Sculpture Park and Smackmellon in NYC, DiverseWorks and Aurora Picture Show in Houston, PICA in Portland, OR, CoCA in Seattle, WA, and Signal in Malmö, Sweden.

Fletcher is represented in San Francisco by Jack Hanley Gallery, and in NYC by Christ ine Burgin Gallery.

He was a participant in the 2004 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art . Fletcher is on the faculty of Portland State University in the Art Department where he recently developed an Art and Social Practice emphasis for the Masters of Fine Arts in Contemporary Arts.

In 2002 Fletcher started Learning To Love You More, a participatory website with Miranda July. In the book of the same name [Prestel 2007] a selection of art and personal stories from the website are presented. They range from earnest explanations, recorded interactions, humble creative feats, and scraps from memory or fantasy or some complicated combination all of them compiled from the thousands of audio, visual , and textual contributions to Fletcher and July's Website.

Easy Listening: Talks in Art and Culture is a collaborative project by ARTSPACE, Elam School of Fine Arts and Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki.
