Warren Maxwell, or ‘big shiny star’ as his band mates call him, is one of the most well respected musicians currently working in New Zealand. Warren is former front-man of Trinity Roots, saxophonist for Fat Freddy's Drop, and now leads and writes songs for the psychedelic blues quartet Little Bushman. He assembled Little Bushman with fellow Wellingtonians Rick Cranson, and Tom and Joe Callwood in 2006.

Tama Waipara is a groundbreaking singer/songwriter inspired by a wealth of legendary song stylists and balladeers like George Benson, Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway and Nina Simone. His 2009 album ‘Sir Plus & the Requirements' is a beautifully crafted work that successfully straddles 1950s pop and 1970s soul, playing host to a fictional character called ‘Sir Plus’, the long lost Polynesian cousin of Sergeant Pepper.

They discuss the art of songwriting with Mike Chunn.

Presented as a part of the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival.

Supported by APRA.
