The University of Canterbury Platform Arts Festival presents Classics Associate Professor Robin Bond’s production of The Wasps, a political comedy written by Aristophanes in the 5th century BCE, translated by Robin from the original Greek.

The play is a satire upon the litigiousness of the Athenian people of the time and the corruption of politicians and the demagogues who bribe, browbeat and cynically exploit the electorate. It contains humour of all kinds: verbal wit and parody, comic sketches of great ingenuity and knockabout farce.

The large cast and production team drawn from across the University will provide audiences with a highly entertaining and politically-charged comedy.

Presented as a part of the University of Canterbury's Platform Arts Festival 2010, a dynamic 11 day extravaganza of art, lectures, theatre, music and film.
