Course Outline:
Introduction will consist of a talk explaining the basics of animal sculpting; explaining proportion, the use of reference material and how the basic elements of art can be utilised.

Position will be discussed, animals will be chosen and also the message being conveyed with the sculpture.

Armatures will be discussed and as part of the material pack supplied, the aluminium wire will be handed out to the class so they can start constructing them and arrange them to create their chosen position

Massing of the rigid form will be discussed while the class start massing out their animal explaining the different ways it can be achieved. Underlying structure will be a very important part it this stage of the course.

Muscle structure will be the next step to be discussed. The sample sculpt will be used to show how this can be achieved. The class will get an opportunity to ask for personal assistance throughout the course. At this point gravity will be discussed and the affect on the figure. Tension in muscles vs. their resting position will be discussed. The class will add muscle structure to their sculptures.

Detailing and Textures will be discussed, examples shown and impact thereof on well known sculptures. Everybody will jump in and sculpt to heart’s content.

Heads will be discussed and examples looked at. Sculpting of hair, scales or skin will be discussed and examples looked at. Sculpting will continue.

Paws and feet will be discussed and advice given on making it easy.
