A Clay Sculpting Course for Beginners to Intermediate Skill Level
Tutor: Shona Lyon
Course Role: Minimum 3 People/ Maximum 6
Fees: Early Bird $650 (payment prior to 22 April - late Bird $750 (payment after 22 April)

Note: Course price includes Life Model – If you don’t wish to sculpt the models face you may bring photo’s of someone you wish to Sculpt. If however, you wish to do this then you will need to bring A4 photo’s of them from front, left side and right side if possible. While it is possible to sculpt from a clear front on picture, it is far better to have the 3 shots. You will always be better sculpting directly from the model where possible. I would recommend for your ease that you use the model for your first portrait.

Shona begins with introduction on, and then the sculpting of a generic skull. Bony landmarks are observed and reproduced on your own clay skull Sculpture. The geometric relationships and triangulation between those points are noted and highlighted. This method is used to help us "see" more clearly and enables us to go back and fix any errors made as we progress with the portraiture. The generic skull is then transformed into the skull of the model and then clay modeling techniques are taught to create the portrait.

The Vaugel teaching approach is based on a profound geometric and anatomical analysis of the figure. It emphasizes boney landmarks, the weighting of planes in the creation of forms, the skull and direct observation.

My focus and teaching is basis on "process" not "end product". I hope to give you the tools and the processes I myself was taught in order for you to manifest your own sculptural visions.
You will leave the course with a life-size Clay portrait (Front of head and neck). You may wish to follow up with the portrait molding class that will enable you to mold and cast your portrait in one of a variety of mediums. See mold a portrait or phone 620-1110 for details.
