“Shear the Spirit” Dinner in conjunction with Paihia Fire Brigade and the South Australian Tourism Commission – raising BIG money for the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation.

This is a fundraiser being held by the Paihia Volunteer Fire Brigade Stair Climbing Team in support of the “Shave for a Cure" initiative of the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation. Top Chef and Paihia Volunteer Fire Fighter Hughie Blues says “Over the last four years the Paihia Volunteer Fire Brigade Stair Climbing Team has taken top fundraising honours at the Fire Fighters Vertical Challenge at Auckland’s Sky Tower, raising a staggering $62,000. The fundraising trophy has become a highly sort after piece of silverware amongst other fundraisers and Team Paihia don't want to give away the trophy without a fight, this year setting a goal to raise $20,000 and we are well on the way to achieving this”.

This not to be missed charity evening will see diners being bussed from the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Bay of Islands to The Woolshed Waitangi; a venue befitting of the South Australian “outback” theme of the night. There they will be treated to a five course dinner prepared by local, national & international acclaimed Chef’s at LIVE cooking stations.

Up for auction on the night is a magnificent South Australian holiday package for two. This includes a 3 night stay on a houseboat on the Murray River. Total package worth over $5000.

The main feature of the evening is sure to be watching 4 special guests have their heads shaved on stage. Diners will be able to pledge money for their favourite special guest to have their head shaved with pledges being accepted prior to the dinner and also on the night.

Set to be a sell-out evening, very limited tickets are available for $150 per person or $1350 for a table of ten. This includes the five course dinner, beer, wine (a fine selection of South Australian wines will be featured) and juice with dinner and transportation to and from the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Bay of Islands. Bus departs the Copthorne Hotel & Resort at 6.15pm and returns at 11pm.

Chef’s for the evening are:
• Paul Jobin – Freelance Chef, demonstrator and part-time lecturer at the Culinary Institute of NZ, Kerikeri. Food TV Chef for Best of NZ Food, food writer for Detours Magazine, Herald on Sunday & author of a pinch of salt.
• Owen Sinclair – Owner of Killer Prawn, Whangarei, & Northland's Innovative Chef of the Year 2009 (as voted by industry in last year’s Mataariki Hospitality Awards).
• Gordon Blume – German born and trained. Former Executive Chef for Heritage Hotel Auckland, currently a Freelance Chef based in Auckland.
• Chris Hagan – Head Chef at Pure Tastes, Bay of Islands. English grand winner of the 2006 NZ-UK Link Foundation competition set up with the help of famous Chef Peter Gordon.
• Natasha MacAller – “The Dancing Chef”, celebrated Pastry Chef/Consultant, formerly of Napa Valley Grille’s flagship restaurant in Westwood, CA. Now residing in the Bay of Islands.

All proceeds from the “Shear the Spirit” Dinner will go directly to the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation through the Paihia Volunteer Fire Brigade’s Stair Climbing Team.
