Top New Zealand comedian Ewen Gilmour performs for two big nights at the mighty Revolver Queenstown.

Ewen Gilmour is a New Zealand comedy legend and 'Westie' icon.

Having endured several personal tragedies in close succession, Ewen’s mates were amazed at how he was still so light hearted and managed to make jokes about events. Already in his thirties, they dared him to enter a comedy competition in which he came 3rd, and that was the beginning of a successful comedy career that has taken him around the globe.

Early in his career Ewen watched other acts make jokes about West Auckland and decided that “if anyone should mock Westies it should be one of us”. At one of Ewen’s first gigs the bouncer wouldn’t let him in as he was dressed in his leathers as Ewen “The Westie” Gilmour. Ironically his routines helped make “Westie” a widely used term, and something to be proud of.

You will have seen Ewen on TV shows such as Hitched, V8TV, Here To Stay German Episode, Dancing With the Stars, Celebrity Treasure Island and Intrepid Journeys Peru. A past star of Pulp Comedy, Ewen is also a regular on televised comedy galas.

Since hitting the comedy circuit in 1995 Ewen quickly became one of New Zealand’s best stand-up comedy performers with a string of credits in television and the live comedy scene both nationally and internationally. Highlights of his career locally include winning the first inaugural Billy T Award & becoming a cultural ambassador for Waitakere city. Ewen did not have a passport until 1996 and has since performed in Montreal, Ireland, Paris, Australia, Brussels and has twice entertained the NZ troops in East Timor.

Ewen loves people and travelling all over NZ. He has been a city councillor for Waitakere City, and is also an Ambassador for Variety the Children’s Charity. Ewen helps raise funds for NZ children travelling in style in a GT Radials racing limo.

Known as the V8 of NZ comedy Ewen’s outrageous style, sometimes wicked other times self deprecating sense of humour will definitely have you racing from laugh to laugh.
