Not long after the saxophone was invented in 1841, French composer Berlioz described it as “deep and calm, passionate, dreamy, melancholic,
like an echo of an echo”.

It’s still all these things but in the hands of New Zealand ensemble Saxcess, the saxophone is also capable of much, much more. Widely regarded as New Zealand’s foremost saxophone ensemble, Saxcess perform an eclectic mix of jazz, classical and cutting edge contemporary, with style and panache.

With numerous nationwide tours under their belts, the group has also performed with the Royal New Zealand Ballet and at all the major arts festivals around New Zealand.

Saxcess have also commissioned and premiered many New Zealand compositions, including works by Gareth Farr, John Psathas, Ross Harris, Michael Norris
and David Hamilton.
