Elizabeth Holowell – violin
Dean Sky-Lucas – piano

Elizabeth Holowell and Dean Sky-Lucas present works for violin and piano by a true statesman of New Zealand music, Douglas Lilburn.

Elizabeth Holowell is currently Senior Lecturer in Violin at The University of Auckland’s School of Music. Elizabeth Holowell began her professional career as a foundation member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra and has been a well-known violin recitalist for many years in Australia. She has given recitals throughout Australia and in the UK, USA, Asia and New Zealand. Before migrating to New Zealand in 2006, she held the position of Head of Strings at University of Newcastle Conservatorium for 22 years. In addition Elizabeth has been a guest teacher at a number of leading music international institutions including Juilliard and Eastman in the USA and the Royal Welsh College at Cardiff. In the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2003 Elizabeth was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to string playing and teaching.

Dean Sky-Lucas graduated from the University of Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, NSW, studying with Michael Duddmann (organ) and Professor Robert Constable (piano). Since graduation Dean has been the accompanist to the wind and opera departments of the VCA (Melbourne) and for four years was an associate artist with the Australian National Academy of Music. Dean departed ANAM to pursue further studies in speech pathology at Latrobe University, placing him at the forefront of vocal performance from a biomedical perspective. Dean has performed harpsichord, celeste, piano and organ with the MSO, OV and TSO, and regularly tours New Zealand, Australia and internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. Following 15 years in Melbourne, Dean has recently accepted the position of Lecturer and Head of Collaborative Piano at The University of Auckland.
