Downtown the Mount will come alive this Labour Weekend with the Mount Mainstreet/Bay News 2011 Busking Festival, proudly supported by Classic Hits! This festival has now been running for over 16 years, and is always great free family entertainment.

On Saturday, the junior competitors (under 16’s) will try and wow the judges and spectators to win and on the Sunday the open section competitors will be displaying their talents to try and win the hearts of the judges and the public.

Traditionally, there are mainly musicians, but this competition is suitable for anyone with a talent - someone who can dance, juggle, mime, draw, or play any instrument? They might be in a dance group like tap or jump jam, whistle, bellydance, play the bagpipes, or be able to sing like rock star. It’s all about showcasing a skill or talent, having a great attitude, having stacks of fun and the performers all get to keep their tips so there is plenty of incentive for them to perform to the best of their ability!

Winner of the junior section will take home $500 cash, while the open section winner will pocket $1,000. There’s a total prize pool of $3,000! This year there is a “Best Effort” prize for the juniors and on both days $100 is up for grabs for the “Crowd Pleaser”.

There is no entry fee for performers and no admission fee for the public. Spectators will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite performers, and also go in the draw to win a $50 Mainstreet voucher!
