University Sport New Zealand (USNZ) is thrilled to announce Auckland as the host of the 2011 New Zealand University Games event.

More than 2,000 students from New Zealand tertiary institutions across the country are expected to compete in the four day competition which will be held in sports venues across central Auckland and the North Shore.

The event which has been dubbed the “2011 Super City Games” will be one of the first major sports events to be hosted under the new Supercity model.

Louise Burns, Executive Director of Games organisers University Sport New Zealand, is pleased to take the Games to Auckland and be part of a new and exciting time in the city’s development.

“The 2011 Supercity Games is a fabulous concept. We are very pleased with the proposal being put forward and impressed by the number of partners who have got behind the Games”.

The 2011 Super City Games Consortium is being led by AUT University and AUT Student Movement @ AUT (AuSM). USNZ can confirm the support of Games' partners; ALAC, ZM, 2 degrees, Highbrook, Red Bull, Sport Auckland, Harbour Sport and the new Auckland Council which took effect 1 November 2010.

The 2011 Supercity University Games will run from 26 – 29 April, continuing the hundred year tradition of university sport. The first Games were hosted in 1902 by the University of Canterbury and over a century later they are recognised as the second largest annual multi-sports event in New Zealand, after the Masters Games.
