Cambell Walker > Spoiling your whole week: fifteen years in the margins of a non-existent film culture.

In New Zealand film, the role models available are generally mass-market genre movies, insipid nostalgia, or condescendingly worthy exotica, and an apologetic take on film culture fails signally to extend beyond the dominant cinema except in isolated and embittered cells. Underground filmmaker Campbell Walker was once dubbed “the enfant terrible of New Zealand film” by an ex-girlfriend in a national publication and he is still smarting from it. He battles habitual contrariness, exhaustion, and a tendency to over-simplify while arguing the need for cinematic approaches that critically engage with “our” “culture” and “society” - or at the very least have something to do with it.

Held in P152 Lecture Theatre.
