The Meler Ensemble, formed in New York in 2009, is led by the brilliant young Czech violinist Josef Špaček who was the winner of the Michael Hill Violin Competition in 2009, and who made an extensive recital tour for Chamber Music NZ with Michael Houstoun in 2010. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, he also won first prize in the Kocian International Violin Competition. Earlier this year, he was appointed Concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic. He will be joining the orchestra in September for the 2011/2012 season.

Pianist Andrew Tyson is one of the most exciting young pianists of his generation in the United States. He is a 2010 graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and is currently studying at the Juilliard School of Music. He is an avid chamber musician and has worked with the Brentano and St Lawrence Quartets. He was also a semi-finalist in the 2010 Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw.

Wellington-born sisters Amanda and Aleisha Verner complete the quartet on viola and cello respectively. They both studied in Wellington before moving to the United States where they study at the Curtis Institute (Amanda) and Julliard School of Music (Aleisha).
