First speaker: John Shackleton presenting... Moving into the 21st Century

John Shackleton CSP is going to speak tonight about how to wow your audience by using technology and modern media within your presentations. He will talk about tricks such as using props, magic, embedding video and audio, using Twitter and txt whilst speaking, and using the internet whilst on stage. Audiences these days require more than just a few powerpoint slides and John will show you how to keep your audience enthralled with what is happening on screen.

John believes we all need to raise our game if we are going to compete with the next generation of speakers that are beginning to emerge who have grown up with this new technology. Some speakers are burying their head in the sand and relying on just their words but you only have to look at the popularity of YouTube to know how much we rely on the visual side of things to entertain us these days. Some of our members are still in the 19th century and I believe they need this wake up call!

Second Speaker: Olivia Mitchell presenting... Three Types of Toxic Presentation and How to Avoid Giving One

Very few speakers have an effective or efficient method for planning a presentation. As a result, they leave their audiences bored, confused or overloaded with information.

In this presentation, Olivia Mitchell will show you why commonly-used methods for planning a presentation don’t work. Olivia will then take you through a five-step process that will enable you to design an effective presentation quickly and easily. You’ll learn:

* The three rules to follow to ensure your message sticks
* How Seth Godin, Malcolm Gladwell and Al Gore keep their audiences engaged and how you can too
* The secret to mixing stories and statistics for maximum impact
* The hidden glue that effective presenters use to make their presentations flow
* Why you don’t have to grab people’s attention at the beginning of your presentation
* How to get your audience wanting to know more.

Olivia Mitchell runs Effective Speaking together with her partner Tony Burns. Effective Speaking has trained thousands of New Zealanders to be more confident, competent presenters.

Olivia writes one of the most popular presentation and public speaking blogs in the world, Speaking about Presenting. This year Olivia is speaking at two presentation conferences in the United States: the Hook Presentation Conference and the Presentation Summit.

We look forward to seeing you there!
