A free pre-competition trout workshop & registration for the Lower Waikato river trout contest 2011 will be held at the Ngaruawahia RSA, where experts such as Bert Robinson will provide practical advice on methods & tackle selection.

River ecology and a overview of results from trout specimens of the two previous contests will be presented by John Charteris.

Two expert fly tyers - Steve Farrar and Bert Robinson - will demonstrate how easy it is to make your own flies for this fishery.

Three new methods of trout cuisine will be presented by Chef Mike Geelen (with sample tastings!) & there is a softbaits crashcourse conducted by Michael Lynch and William Van Zyl.

A practical session is planned at the nearby delta, the confluence of the Waipa & Waikato rivers, where a casting competition and live bait demo are planned.

Entries for the 2011 Lower Waikato river trout contest can be taken at this workshop, and licences and free fishing guides are available. Optional dinner at the RSA will follow the workshop, with big screen viewing of the World rugby quarter finals.

This is a "must go" event for anyone interested in learning how to fish this area, it's free and a great family or friends occasion.
